MILDENHALL V LION CUBS (GRAND FINAL/KOC), PREVIEW

LEICESTER Lion Cubs move on to Mildenhall on Sunday and a massive meeting in their quest for league and Cup honours.

The action starts at 2pm with the first leg of the NDL Grand Final, following which comes the second leg of the KO Cup Final with the Cubs 26 points clear from last Saturday’s meeting at the Paul Chapman & Sons Arena.

But they face a much-strengthened Fen Tigers side, especially for the league title decider where 15-year-old Ashton Boughen comes in at reserve for the hosts – having already scored well when standing in for Oxford against the Cubs in both legs of the semi-final.

Mildenhall also welcome back Jack Kingston from concussion meaning they operate rider replacement for the injured James Shanes, and they racked up a huge score of 67 points at home in their own semi-final win over Berwick.

The Cubs are at full strength with Max Perry returning after missing Friday’s win at Armadale, and they will also have Max James present and on standby for the KO Cup match, should there be any unfortunate incident in the first meeting which leaves them requiring an additional rider.

Cubs boss Dave Howard said: “We’re all ready for Sunday and we know Mildenhall are strong on their home track, plus they have one of the two excellent 15-year-olds in their team for the league Grand Final.

“But we’ll be looking to put in a strong performance and come away with the best result possible, by keeping things as close as possible.

“We showed a liking for the Mildenhall track when we went there in the league and won, but obviously they have strengthened up now.

“The important thing for us in the Grand Final is to set ourselves up for the second leg at home, that’s the objective for Sunday, and obviously in the Cup Final we want to consolidate our 26-point lead. The aim is to bring home that trophy.”

MILDENHALL: Jason Edwards, James Shanes R/R, Josh Warren, Alex Spooner, Jack Kingston, Ashton Boughen (in NDL Grand Final)/James Laker (in KOC Final), Luke Muff.
LEICESTER: Dan Thompson, Max Perry, Connor Coles, Tom Spencer, Joe Thompson, Vinnie Foord, Mickie Simpson.
